Car Enthusiasts Spend $31 Million at Auction

Bidders purchased $31.4 million worth of vehicles in just one weekend during the Mecum 2014 Dallas auction this month.

The top selling vehicle was a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 convertible which sold for $680,000. The car was one of only two 1969 L88 convertibles finished in black-on-black.

The highest value car, a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, did not sell. The bidding reached $1.2 million, shy of the $1.8 million reserve the owner requested.

Of the 1,155 cars up for auction, 766 were sold.
