Safety During Holiday Shopping

junk in car trunkThe busiest shopping day of the year is just a week away and here at E. R.  Munro and Company, we want you to protect yourself from auto break-ins. Thieves won’t think twice about smashing out your vehicle’s windows to snatch items.

Valuables such as holiday presents left in sight of others are a contributing factor in auto break-ins. Local police departments want you to stop auto break-ins by putting items in your trunk while you are shopping or before you reach your destination.

Follow these safeguards for a happy holiday season:

  • Always parking in a well-lit spot at a meter, surface lot or garage.
  • Always enter and exit your vehicle with caution especially a night.
  • Never leave anything visible inside of your vehicle. Secure personal items such as a GPS system, shopping bags, loose change, gym bags, purses, cell phone/cell charger, briefcase and electronics in the trunk of your vehicle.
  • Always lock your doors and roll up your vehicle windows. Set your alarms when exiting vehicles as a deterrent.
  • Always carry a small purse which can be worn closely to the body. A shoulder strap across the shoulder and chest works well.
  • Always have your keys in hand when approaching your vehicle to avoid searching for them with packages in hand and children in tow.
  • Always call 911 for police assistance.
