Driving Along

In the previous blog post, we discussed the percentage of deer and car collisions, especially in Pennsylvania. Your driver’s comprehensive insurance coverage takes care of the cost of repairing the damage to your vehicle, minus the insurance deductible. But does your insurance policy cover collisions with dogs?

If a dog is not restrained by its owner and you hit the dog with your vehicle, the dog’s owner is held liable for fixing the damage to your vehicle. Typically, the dog owner’s homeowners insurance will cover the damage. But, if there is no homeowners insurance, the dog owner will be held personally responsible for paying the cost to repair your vehicle. If an owner of the dog cannot be found, then your auto insurance’s comprehensive coverage would cover the cost.
