Insuring Drones – Can it be done effectively?

By February 4, 2016August 24th, 2021Uncategorized

drone_0The Federal Aviation Administration estimates that by 2020 there will be 30,000 drones in use for a variety of business purposes.

As more and more drones take to the air, manufacturers, programmers and operators of these unmanned devices will search for insurance plans to protect them from financial liabilities should something go wrong.

There are a number of complex liability and coverage issues related to the insuring of the commercial use of drones, including personal injury, property damage, invasion of privacy, and workers compensation.

Several large insurance companies have begun offering insurance policies specific to the use of drones, but it is unclear as to how far and how much these policies protect the insured. This is new territory for the insurance industry. Coverage for drone-related liabilities is still evolving as is the use of drones in commercial ventures.
