Letting Your Vehicle Warm Up During Winter

If you’re like many drivers in the winter, you go out and start your vehicle to let it warm up while you finish getting ready for work. What if your vehicle gets stolen while it’s running in the driveway warming up?

You are probably better off getting into a cold vehicle than letting the engine warm up in the morning while you are inside your home. Besides tempting thieves, you may also get a ticket in some jurisdictions, such as Ohio, where it’s against the law to leave a car running unattended.

If your vehicle is stolen and you do not have comprehensive and collision coverage, a loss from theft would not be covered. Nor would damage from vandalism, natural disaster or damage to your vehicle that’s your own fault.

Take the time to review your auto insurance policy or contact your insurance agent if you aren’t sure what coverage you have and whether your policy covers winter driving issues.
