E. R. Munro and Company dates back to 1885. The first office was a branch of a Canadian bonding company managed by Mr. Munro. Mr. S. I. Aronson was hired by Mr. Munro in 1900 to "manuscript" bonds. The typewriter was in existence at that time, though not very common, but its use was considered "women's work." Preprinted forms, as we know them today, did not exist. So, Mr. Aronson hand wrote bond forms to suit the needs of each individual bond customer.
A few years later, Mr. Aronson convinced Mr. Munro that they could do better in life as partners and agents. So, on March 1, 1918, E. R. Munro and Company opened its doors with the following announcement:
An announcement of the new partnership was also made by the Guarantee Company of North America:
Later in 1918, Mr. Aronson suggested the inclusion of automobile insurance as part of the business. Mr. Munro agreed, but let Mr. Aronson handle the project because he thought cars were just a passing fancy and not worth his time.
As a family owned and operated business, Mr. Aronson included his two sons and daughter in the development and operation of E. R. Munro and Company. The youngest son, Sam Aronson, entered the company on his return from World War II. For fifty years, he maintained the traditions of honest, dependable service, always providing the customers with bonds to meet their needs at the most competitive prices. He maintained an attitude of consistently educating all staff members in the correct methods of producing bonds and obtaining the best possible product for our valued customers.
Continuing in the tradition established by his father, Sam Aronson introduced his sons to the business. Thus, he established the third generation in the expansion of the bond department and the insurance department.
Tod Aronson manages the insurance department, specializing in insuring families and small (less than $10,000,000 in annual sales) family businesses in Western Pennsylvania. Clients who appreciate the best coverage and the best service at competitive prices will find that all their needs can be handled through E. R. Munro and Company. Insurance policies are placed through the Harleysville Group of Insurance Companies (rated "A-" by A. M. Best Company) and Travelers (rated "A+" by A. M. Best Company). For higher valued homes, $500,000 and up or for higher valued vehicles, policies are placed with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies (rated "A++" by A. M. Best Company).
All of the staff within the insurance department and bond department of E. R. Munro receive constant training to maintain an efficient and up-to-date system for meeting our clients needs.
Within the bond department, we specialize in "non-contract surety bonds" through nine different bonding companies. All of the companies are rated "A" by A. M. Best Company. This allows us to provide the best service at the lowest possible price. Best service means that we can complete the paperwork and provide you with bonding documentation on the spot when you supply the information needed in person. By mail, the turn around time is often one or two days. Best prices means that we offer our services all over the United States, providing bonds to thousands of people. Thus our prices can be maintained at a low cost to our valued customers.
