When Fido Bites …Are You Covered?

We Americans love our dogs. And they in turn, love us.

But when a stranger wants to pet Fido or one of the neighborhood children reaches out to play with Fido, there could be trouble.

If Fido bites the stranger or neighborhood child and causes an injury that requires a trip to the hospital, you, as Fido’s owner, could be held responsible for the medical bills.

Depending on where you live, what breed of dog you own, and your insurance company, your homeowners insurance may be of help.

Some insurance companies have lists of breeds and crossbreeds they will not insure, while other insurance companies consider such breeds on a case-by-case basis, or charge more in premiums for dogs considered “biting breeds,” such as pit bulls and Rottweilers.
