Selling Your Home?

Spring and summer are great seasons for selling a home. If you are planning to sell your home in the next several months, here are some tips that will help your home sell quickly.

1. Declutter. The old saying “less is more” is appropriate when getting your home ready to show potential buyers. Remove personal items, such as family pictures, your children’s trophies and personalized artwork. Remove large or over-sized furniture and clean off countertops. Go through the cupboards and closets and remove things you can do without (temporarily). You want a potential buyer to come in and imagine themselves living there.

2. Clean. Make sure your home is impeccably clean. If this task seems overwhelming, call a service to come in and give your home a good cleaning from top to bottom. Buyers will notice a clean home … and notice a dirty home.

3. Neutralize. Having purple or red painted walls or wallpaper from the 1980s may scare off potential buyers. Give the walls a fresh coat of neutral-colored paint. For the home’s exterior, pressure-wash the driveway, front sidewalk and patio. Plant some colorful flowers, and trim overgrown trees and shrubs to add curb appeal.

4. Stage. In a recent Real Estate Staging Association study of 1,081 homes, unstaged homes spent an average of 184 days on the market; after staging, they sold on average in 41 days. A staging company can fully stage a home or work around furniture you already have to help show the property in its best light. Staging will make your home look inviting, neutral and ready for buyers.
